You know you are a blogger, If...

You know you are a blogger, If you've been asked at least one of the following questions ever since you added "Blogger" to the About me/Bio section in Social Media. Read on.

1. So what do you blog about?

I’m sorry but I’m just recovering from the shock of being asked the ‘Tell me about yourself’ question yet again. Anyway, if you are looking for a simple one word answer, I would have to invent a word to convey the multitude of things that I blog about. I admire people who write on a particular theme. Since I’m not a professional full time blogger, I write about things in general. I write about things which people can mostly relate to. This is my standard reply. I’ve noticed that people are not impressed with this honest answer. For all of you, I’ll write a special post on what I blog about. Read that and let me know if there is one word for it.

2. Have you considered blogging about this?
So I was telling this acquaintance that I am a blogger and I was just getting started about what I blog about. He was all ears and seemed quite interested in knowing what I wrote. After some time the topic of conversation drifted to something else and suddenly he said ‘You should so blog about this’. I had to give an awkward smile and say thanks, but seriously dude did you at least listen to the words that came out of your mouth? Really?  It’s nice when people give us a prompt to write, but is it too much to ask them to use some common sense before they utter those words?

3. How did you start blogging?
I’m surprised that people think I have a story about how I got to write my first post. Excuse me, I’m talking about a simple leisure activity. It’s not like a Bollywood hero’s entry in a film. It’s not that somebody has passed the baton and expects me to be the master of the game right from day 1. It’s not that I’ve always known that I would be a blogger and I would just have to wait for a good way to start. No, it’s just too simple. I was bored and I wanted to try something. Stop watching all those films and stop expecting everything to have a fairy tale touch.  Stop embarrassing me when I give you the answer and you keep looking for more explanation from me.

The Curious Case of the Over Confident Being.

Sometimes, being over confident does have its own benefits.

Most of us take life too seriously. Some of us complicate it unnecessarily.

Some of us give more priority to those around us, wondering what they would think and how they would react, even before we think for ourselves or come to a decision.

Sometimes we hold ourselves back and let opportunities pass because we end up questioning our very own self.  We look around for numerous excuses and start the blame game and convince ourselves that we are not prepared for it.

Sometimes we don’t believe in our own self.

That’s when I feel that, sometimes being over confident is the way to go.

When we are just confident enough, there might be traces of doubt hovering at the back of our minds.
But when I see people who are over confident, after the initial Thank-God-I’m-Not-Over-Confident and Thank-God-I-Am-What-I-Am reaction, I wonder whether those people are really the smartest ones.

They think too highly of themselves and go about doing what they like, without having to question their abilities. They do not look for excuses to bank on, if at all they fail to achieve their purpose. They do not pay attention to what those around them have to say.  They take in what makes them stronger and refuse to even hear out those who don’t matter, even if they meant no ill will.

Sometimes I just wish I had their guts and their overwhelming belief in themselves.

Sometimes I wish I were over confident, so that I could check off a few items from my dream to-do list!

At the end of the day, they would be branded as the ‘over confident person’. But they would not be bothered by the tag that random strangers are associating them with. They walk away as the winner.

All said and done, when it comes to deciding when to be over confident and when not to be, you are the best judge.

A good balance would definitely be the way to go. A good balance, if you manage to maintain. Else..

Are we truly Independent?

If you were alone and did not have any company, would you hesitate to do any one of the following?

  • Going outside to eat
  • Shopping
  • Going for a leisurely walk
  • Watching a movie
  • Visiting a park/beach/museum

If your answers to all the above questions are similar to ‘Of course not, I wouldn’t hesitate to carry on. It’s no big deal’, I’m happy that I have company.

If your answers to the above questions are similar to ‘Perhaps I would hesitate. But if it was absolutely necessary I would go’, this post would make more sense to you.

Man is a social animal. He longs for company though he may not express it openly.  There is nothing wrong with that. It always feels nice if you have someone to talk to, if you have someone to eat with and hang around and if you are surrounded by people. Usually when people are in big group, there tends to be a free flow of positivity and laughter, which will definitely improve our mood and make us feel lighter and happier. That’s why they say, when you share your happiness with others it tends to multiply, but when you share your problem with others, they seem to diminish. I would say, having people for company is not a necessity but an affordable luxury.
