Dare to Dream!

All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them". ~Walt Disney

Childhood days are the best days in our lives. One day we desired to be a Doctor, Another day, engineer, One day we aspired to become a scientist and another day we decided we would be an entrepreneur.

When we were young, we dared to dream, beyond our will, beyond our might. We believed in ourselves and we had the confidence that we would be able to accomplish and fulfil our dreams. Looking back, I’m not sure of how and where that confidence came from, but still there was something deep within , some burning desire, to set a dream; a destination and to fulfil it, at some point of time in the future . Agreed that we were completely ignorant of the course of actions which we would have to undertake to realize our vision, but our mind was set on the destination. We dreamt without being gripped by a sense of fear, we knew we could do it; we knew we would do it. We just had to figure out how.

The Story of My Name!

Every day something interesting happens to every one of us. Some of us are lucky enough to pay attention to the little “interesting” things which happen. Some of us are too busy to notice it. It all comes down to how you respond to, when something happens.

The other day when I was on my way to office, I as usual, kept myself occupied with twitter and music, when a lady came and sat next to me. She was accompanied by her son who was around 5 to 6 years. He was very well behaved, sat quietly without pestering his mom. I was surprised. Such a well behaved boy, at such a young age!

If I Had Two Extra Hours In A Day...

If you had two extra hours in a day, how would you spend it?

This is the question which Indiblogger and Surf Excel have been asking us bloggers.

Today, in this fast paced world, in trying to cope with the speed, we tend to sacrifice a lot of things. Things and activities and people who are dear to us. We do not have the luxury of spending time for our favourite shopping or for a match of cricket. We are not lucky enough to manage the hectic schedule and spend quality time with our loved ones. We are deprived of time to enjoy the small things in life. We complain when it rains, we complain when its sunny, we complain for anything and everything. We’ve lost patience and the art of relishing things. All this leads to anger and irritation, and finally one is never content.

It's Today!

The alarm went off.
I got up immediately.
I couldn’t stop smiling,
The day had finally come.
The day I’d been waiting for so long,
The day I was looking forward to
Ever since I was a child.
I’d dreamed of this day, so many times.

Guest Post : "Real Treasure " By Saru Singhal

Saru Singal. She doesn't need an introduction, because I'm sure everyone in Blogosphere would have read her wonderful poems. I was under the impression that one could write poems only on certain topics, until I read her blog. She chooses the best of the words and writes poems on topics one could ever think of. She has inspired me ( and many others )to write poems. I would describe her poems as "Soul- Stirring " ones. I'm happy she consented to write a Guest Post for my Blog. Thank you Saru, I'm extremely honored

We can live alone, lest we wish
Treading day in and out.
All success we can achieve,
Enough to stand on roof top and shout.
No song is difficult to sing,
No wood difficult to cut.
But try listening unsaid,
Cut the silence for that you must.
No one is born to be alone,
No one is born to shed tears.
Bring more people in your life,
And shed all your fears.
Keep a treasure, a treasure of relations;
For all ups and downs of life.
When stuck in storm,
They help you survive...

Guest Post : "The Secret Of Our Society" By SUB

Subhrashis Adhikari aka SUB writes at  KHOJ . His blog makes one think, or rather challenges one to think and stretch one's level of imagination. He writes on common topics of discussion, but his style of writing and the way he frames it up, and the way he clearly conveys the abstract thoughts is simply amazing. I'm sure his words have a huge impact on his readers and followers. Simple yet, powerful it is! I'm glad that he was able to write a Guest Post for me, when I asked him. Thank you Sub. I'm honored

Inequality is the biggest problem in today’s society. However it is inequality that makes us, some of us, rich. ‘Enough’ is never enough for human beings, they always want more. They want more so that their future is secure. That is why we work hard everyday over-stressing ourselves to have our own house, a big car, a big bank balance. And in that process we forget to live our life that exists only in the ‘present’. Precisely because of that reason we started agriculture 10000 yrs ago, to have more food than required for the ‘secured’ future.

Guest Post :The Letter" W " By Sahana Rao

Sahana's blog,  Ahamkaara is one of its kind. She writes about instances which happen in our everyday life in a very engaging manner. Anyone reading her blog will be able to relate to what she writes. Among other things,I like the way she sticks to conveying simple thoughts, in a beautiful way. I admire the way she plays with words and her ability to connect with the numerous fellow bloggers who follow her blog. She is one of the best bloggers in Blogosphere and one of my favourtie Bloggers.  Thank you Sahana for writing me a guest post. I'm honored!

The 23rd letter of the English alphabet. Yes. The letter I do not like to see. A Plagiarist. A Copy-cat. Letter sans individuality. A Parasite.  Oh.. Am I calling names? Wait. Wait. Let me explain..

Now, go back to your phonetics and voice out "W". Loudly. Now, again. Loudly and Slowly. Did you say "double-u"? Supporters of W, try not using "Letter U" for voicing out "W". Does it have a unique sound? No. It does not. Let us come back to this later.

Guest Post : "Beauty is Skin Deep" By Sujatha Sathya

Sujatha's  "Conversations "was the first blog I read, after joining Indiblogger. Reading her articles on various topics written with a natural style, triggered me to get into blogging more actively. If it had not been for her, I wouldn't have taken blogging so seriously and I would've been completely ignorant of  the beautiful world of Blogging. The thing with Sujatha is, she can write on any topic under the sun, and ensure that her readers enjoy what she writes irrespective of the topic, which proves her versatility. I felt so honored when she consented to write me a guest post, when I asked her. Thank you Sujatha.

Beauty is Skin Deep

And hence, it is superficial; it doesn’t last, it can’t be trusted & so shouldn’t be idolized or desired. This is the puritanical view of beauty. Is it really so?

Book Review : I’m Not Twenty Four.. By Sachin Garg

Sachin Garg says that there are two kinds of stories. One is the kind where, everyone can relate easily to it. The other is where one finds it difficult to believe that such a story actually exists. "I'm Not Twenty Four..belongs to the second category. It is about a city bred girl, an MBA graduate, who is asked to report for work at a remote village in South India. The story revolves around how she tries to adapt herself to her new environment.

(Taken on a rainy day, from my DSLR. I focused on the image , that the puddle was reflecting)

The World, as you see it.

One must learn to look at the bright side of life more often, than just lamenting about the other side.

There are positives and negatives to anything and everything. Take in the positives ,don't be bothered by the negative aspects.

Look at the world, the way you want it to be. You'd be surprised to see, it's not a bad place after all.

Book Review :"A Splash of Love, A Kiss of Infatuation" By Rajeev Ranjan

RajeevRanjan , the author of this book is at present serving the Indian Coast Guard. When Mr Rajeev sent me a mail asking me to review his book, I was completely taken by surprise when I came to know that he is with the Indian Coast Guard. It is evident how passionate he is about writing, when one sees his book. After all, it takes so much of effort and perseverance to get a book published. He has done all this amidst his hectic routine. Rajeev Ranjan is indeed an inspiration for many budding writers who aspire to become an author one day. I offer my heartiest wishes to Mr Rajeev Ranjan and request him to write many more of such wonderful books.

The Self Proclaimed Critic

I recently read this on Twitter. “Anyone with access to the Internet turns a critic”

I’m not against people voicing out their opinion, or against critics ( Yes, It’s their job after all. They get paid for it). I’m talking about those lazy ones, who find it difficult to get their work done as per schedule and finally resort to Facebook, Twitter and You-Tube(And Torrents to download movies), spend their day slouched in front of their laptops and comment (In no way even remotely related to a Review) in the most absurd way possible. Then there are a few others who would want to be seen as someone who has a different opinion (desperate to gain attention) and  would go to any extent just, just for the sake of opposing the general opinion.

Sunset. View From my Terrace.

In our lives too, the Sun keeps setting and rising(situations, emotions, relationships). We should be smart enough to use both to our advantage. We should know what should be done when the sun rises and what can be done when it sets.

Book Review : 'Conversations' By Rajeev Nanda

This book by Rajeev Nanda is collection of stories, or rather, conversations about Life. It includes a few poetic verses as well. The words in the poem and the meaning conveyed through those powerful emotions portrayed by the words, are more than enough for anyone to realize, why Life has not been going the way they hoped it would. It addresses the simple needs and thoughts, which naturally most of us take it for granted. The poems point to the various themes which the author discusses in the book. There is a story for every theme that handles the various aspects and the varying phases in one’s life.

The Balancing Act

Everything in life comes down to how one learns the art of balancing. It is defined by a line.

For instance,If you need to measure the level of confidence of a person on a scale, it would range from, Not confident, Confident, to Over Confident.

At the outset it would be easy to distinguish people who are not confident and those who are over confident. But how would you define a confident person? Somewhere between the Over-confident and the Not so confident people are those with the optimum level of confidence, in the midst of the two, bang on the line. Swaying a little to either of the sides would make a difference, gradually. So it all depends on that thin line of separation between the two. One shouldn't appear too humble which would portray that they have no confidence. Neither should one appear as a ”know-it-all”, which would go on to say they are over confident. It should be a proportionate balance between the two.

Chennai IndiBlogger Meet October 2011

My 49 seconds of Fame
IndiBlogger Meet at 'Namma Chennai” And I was going to miss it? Not at all!
I was super excited when I received a mail from Indiblogger, about the Chennai Meet which they'd planned, since this was going to be the first time I would be  participating and I made sure I’d made arrangements to see to it that I do not have any prior engagements on the same day. Though I did not know many bloggers from Chennai( Yes, that was before the Meet, Now I know a lot of them from Chennai), I was looking forward to see those whom I’d established contact with and of course, to meet new bloggers and make new friends as well.

As the title goes, This book by Chital Mehta revolves around the life of a woman, as she sets out to find her Mr Right, her experiences of being in love with her dream guy, the heart breaks she suffers, her resolution never to fall in love; with a lot of theatrics, typical of us Indian girls;and then naturally going on to break her resolution. Silent Musings of a Forlorn Heart

Lost in her thoughts, miles away from where she was.

If she was quiet, they said she wasn’t outgoing,
If she spoke, they said she was garrulous.

As per the Rules of The Versatile Blogger Award, I'm supposed list 7 things about myself (you can read it here) and Pass on the award. So Here are the Bloggers, who I feel should receive this award.

License to Kill?

Girl commits suicide, unable to bear the humiliation of being snubbed and dumped by her ex.

Student commits suicide unable to cope with college pressure.

I just can’t figure out why people today are so sensitive, to the extent that they are unable to tolerate when someone blames them or points a finger at them. Why are we not able to take criticism in the right spirit from others?  Have we lost the ability to be resilient, instead call it a day, once and for all and give up? The World is fast paced, but why are we impatient and look for quick results? Why do we get into bouts of depression just because we failed at one point? Where has the virtue of patience gone? Has optimism and Positive thinking; despite being stressed repeatedly; become a thing of the past? When we should be giving a lot of room for positive thoughts and withstand the negative forces which trying their best to hamper our progress, we are unable to digest that one negative setback?

Book Review : The (In)Eligible Bachelors by Ruchita Misra

Ruchita Misra’s,”The Ineligible Bachelors” throws light on the concept of “Arranged Marriages” which still continue to be a trend in many parts of our country. The complicated process; beginning with the matrimonial advertisements, the calls and replies, the meetings, the constant pressure from parents, succumbing to their pressure and so forth; has been expressed by the author in a very good manner.

The Autobiography of A Scooty

Images from Dreamstime
Apologies. I kept a word limit for this post, but somehow when I started typing, it kept going on and on, will try to keep my posts short, from now on :-)

“Scooty pep plus (SPP). Plus. This is perhaps the only positive thing in me, in my name. I’m hardly a few years old, but if you see me, you’d think I was probably reaching the end of my life. Such is my deplorable state. I’ve been pushed and shoved and thrown and manhandled to the point of agony. I am not able to tolerate the hardships which I am undergoing almost on a daily basis, any longer. I’m seriously contemplating suicide. Yes. Please don’t stop me. If you were in my place, you would have killed yourself at least ten times. Ok. Now, for all those people who say I’m being selfish and not considerate enough to take such a drastic step, here’s the story of my Life.

You might deny it, but the truth is, almost every thing one comes across needs “Make up”.  You don’t get what I’m trying to say? Read on.
Actress. Can you look at the faces of all those leading ladies in Bollywood without make up? I’m not saying they can’t step a foot outside, sans their make up. They can, they might have the guts to do so. But after seeing them in their ravishing beauty, would you see them on screen without make up? No. I wouldn't

My Cycle Story.

For those who wanted to know the other 3 life threatening situations I'd mentioned in 'Someone's Blunder Your Tragedy',this post is for you all. The other 2 incidents will also be posted, shortly.

I guess I had watched a lot of movies then, because, when I was 10, I thought Accident meant, any two moving vehicles crashing or a moving vehicle crashing with, irrespective of the place, irrespective of the intensity of the crash, irrespective of the speed at which they collide.  And I’d watched enough cinemas to know that accident always resulted in death, however trivial it was.

Maps Of the World. My Favorite PC App.

The present generation’s mindset (to which I belong) is very different from that of its predecessors. There is a lot of difference. The way they think, the way they give importance to their apparel, the way they eat, the way they socialize and so on. You can find the present generation more adventurous, daring, and creative than the previous generations. The Previous generation was content. The Present generation wants more. Upon successful completion of a task, The Previous generation would relax, the Present Generation would say, “what next? “. The Previous generation liked to settle for what was available. The Present Generation tries to experiment and get what they want.

Mobile Phone Etiquette

Recently I was unfortunate  to be next to someone, who did not know that a mobile phone would convey the voice message to the other end, irrespective of the how far the person at the other end was, and took to shouting at the top of his voice, to make sure his message reached the person on the other end. Poor Him or Poor me? Well., I guess I wasn't that unfortunate enough because, had it not been for him I would not have written this post. ( As I always keep saying, Everything happens for a good reason!)

Lokpal In. Corruption Out?

Lokpal might be the beginning to the End of Corruption, or at least containing corruption. Thanks to Anna Hazare for that. But how did this actually start? The concept of giving and accepting bribes?

It started when

A common man, Despite knowing that he is not fully qualified to take up a particular job, but trying all possible means and ways to get it by hook or crook, goes to a higher official, offers him a favour, in return for a job.

The Sad state of the English Language

(This post was published in THE HINDU, Open Page, on September 17th 2011. You can view it here.)

Yes. Yes. Yes. We all know English is a very funny language. Because it’s the only language where your nose runs and your feet smell.  But what has become of this language now? Especially in a country like India, where people are known to speak English well?  Thanks to the SMS feature in our cell phones, people are redefining the ways in which a word can probably be spelt.

Someone's Blunder, Your Tragedy!

I dont mind getting punished for my mistakes.
But I DEFINITELY mind getting punished for no mistake on my part, but because of someone else's mistake.
I dont mind being reprimanded for failing to do something, For which I'm held responsible.
But I DEFINITELY mind, facing the consequences of someone else's carelessness.

And that's similar to what actually happened.

The Three Golden Rules Of Life.

The Three Golden Rules of Life :

1. Appreciate
2. Apologize
3. Tell others how much they mean to you

I am a big fan of the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" books.  I like to read the narratives given in all those books because, from each and every instance, the author  points out the lesson to be learnt, or rather, he says that, every instance in our life teaches us a lesson which we people mostly miss out on. The lessons learnt may be trivial, but they would make all the difference. In the end it all comes down to the 3 rules mentioned. Let me illustrate how these rules actually work.

It's The Small Things In Life That Matter The Most.

There is this park near my place, to which I go often, to take a stroll. Thanks to the Corporation, the park underwent a transformation of sorts and has been maintained well ever since. Near the Entrance there is a board in which the most beautiful and touching quotes are written every morning by an elderly person. I know that it was an elderly person coz once around 4 years back while waiting at a queue in Spencer's there was this person, who was right behind me and asked me about which Ice cream flavor I liked. I asked him why he was asking me, to which he replied that he was visiting his granddaughter who turned out to be the same age as I was then, and so he wanted to know what Ice cream flavor the younger generation preferred. I immediately told him almost everyone likes Chocolate flavor and so he picked up one and then when a conversation was started, thanks to some problem in the billing counter, he happened to mention that he was writing Quotes on the board at the park. I promised him that the next time I went there, I would surely look for it. And that was it. Four years back.

Common Sense!!!

Common sense. This is something which most, or, some, or rather, a few engineering colleges seem to lack.We choose a particular stream in a particular college to learn and educate ourselves with the basics of the chosen field. But apart from this, many engineering colleges in the city, which I would restrain from mentioning focus on many not-so-important factors, which I, as a passed out student, believe that they are totally uncalled for and instead of focusing on all these trivial things, they should work towards improving the quality of Engineering, which has been declining of late.

Too much has already been talked about the need to improve the quality of education as well as the quality of the engineers passing out every year. So I'll move on to the other issues.

The Freedom to Choose, Or, Is It?

My mom specifically asked me to get Aashirvad Aata and not Pilsbury, because the last time she got it, she was not too pleased with way the chappathis turned out. So , my instructions, according to my mom, were given clearly and I was told what to buy, and what not to buy. I made a mental note of it and drove out to the supermarket and when I reached the Aata section, I was almost taking  out a good packet of Aashirvad Aata, when suddenly, the inner me, (For convenience sake, lets give it a name, iash) said,“Are you sure it is Aashirvad?”

To which I replied,“Yes”

Laughing Your Way To A 100 Years Of Life.

All of us know, or at least heard that Laughing out, actually increases your life span by more than what you can imagine. So these days laughter clubs and therapies are in the news day in and day out. So, we must learn to laugh, not just as a formality or something which is required now and there in a conversation, but laugh from the heart.( In informal gatherings , of course)

The Insatiable Need To Please Everyone.

We always want others to have a good opinion of us. Yes, who doesn't want that? But it is not easy and equally not necessary to please every Tom Dick and Harry.

For an instance, I have an opinion about a person, say A. The opinion, on a scale of Extremely bad to Extremely good, at one point, depending on a situation can be around fair. After a certain period of time, and depending on the situation in which  the subject is present and the mood in which I am, I might award an even better or and even worse grade.

How Good A Friend Are You?

God one asked me, when I was heart-broken since I'd a misunderstanding with one of my best friends ever.
"Child, why are you thinking about him, it's no use holding your friends thoughts onto you anymore, Let Go of it child."
 I replied,
" I don't know what caused the misunderstanding between us, but every time I think of my friends, I'm reminded only about our wonderful friendship we shared and not the problem we had, So I cannot let my friend willingly fly away from me."
God asked me,
"Are you that good a friend?"
 I said,
"Not me, It was my friend who was so good, He was and he still is my Friend, no matter what he says or decides."

Anyone can be friends, but only those who truly understand and share a great rapport and respect with the other can be best friends, Forever!!!

A little Bit Of This And A Little Bit Of That

Everyone is so unique and different from the other. People always want to be seen shining brightly among a crowd. So, what is that, which makes them stand apart? It is how different they are from the rest.

The other day, I was thinking how Different people are, and how different people respond to the one situation and how One person responds to different situations. There are many different kinds of people I have encountered,  To be specific :
I like some
I hate some
I admire some
I like some people for some specific quality, and I do hate some people for some specific trait.
There are some with whom I can easily strike a conversation
There are some with whom I would prefer to stay away.
There are some who appeal to almost everyone near me, but somehow not with me.
There are some who make me feel good about myself
( I've got this POSITIVE attitude in Life, so NO ONE can make me feel bad about myself, :-) )
There are some, who seem good, but they really are up to no good
There are some who are actually nice, but somehow I dont see myself having a good chat with them.
There are some who surprise me with their attitude.
There are some people who can just make you calm down with their affectionate Talks.
There are some people who you hate, but you have to put up with them.
And many more, who more or less find their place in one among the categories listed

So, to stand out, one needs to act like a mirror, to a certain extent. One must be Good to those who are Good to them, Respect those who Respect them, and depending on how the Individual is, they can decide to act in an Eye-For-an-Eye way, or they can act Dignified and Forgive others who hurt or disgrace them. It  requires the knack of  getting the right combination , to please anyone and everyone(including all those kind of people in the list)

In a nut shell,  People have to have the Proper Mix of  qualities in them.
Oh yea, A little Bit Of This And A Little Bit Of That :-)

Friendship Meter

This is how most ( I do not mean all, most ) Friendships work.

This is Life

Just when I got my turn to present the project at the review, Someone else wanted to present theirs, urgently.

Just when I reached the college entrance, the college bus left the campus and I was informed that there would be no more buses till 4.
Just when I finished my Gobi Manchurian, I was told that there was Pappadi chat and Bhel Puri available in our canteen, to which i was oblivious.
Just when I'd got a good system with 1 Gbps Lan speed, I was told I would not be able to access Facebook.

Thanks to Twitter and Blogger,Freecell, Yahoo Astrology and HoroscopeI survived for 3 hours.

And this my friend..Is Life. :), You Almost make it, But still you Dont. But, As someone said (below :P ) Everything always happens for a good reason :)

All of a Sudden.....Change

What happens when we keep walking at a normal ,constant speed and around the corner, a vehicle comes to a screeching halt in front of us? We would feel a jerk, caught unawares, a split second our mind stops working, the heart is still, eyes wide in shock, for  a millisecond we think we are paralyzed.Nothing seems to work or make sense. And everything remains standstill for another second. Something has changed or caused a change and we are yet to find out what it is. We assume the worst and start worrying. A few Seconds later we realize we were lucky that we were saved by our own reflexes, or we realize our carelessness and the consequences of it as we hear the siren approaching us.
